Beyond the Screen

It all started last June when Hameeda reached out to us, worried about her outstanding balance and EMIs. The curious Amy in me instantly wanted to jump in and help. What began as a simple query soon grew into one of the sweetest bonds I’ve ever built beyond the screen.

Hameeda turned out to be one of the kindest, most light-hearted people I’ve spoken to. Even though she was genuinely stressed about her account, her voice had this warmth that instantly made the conversation easier. Once her doubts were cleared, our chat just…flowed, from talking about the weather to how she was really doing.

I learned Hameeda has a sweet tooth. That detail felt like a secret I was trusted with. I had to send her something. A tiny, ridiculous and obviously sweet gesture. I never knew a small box of chocolate could carry such weight. Thank god I listened to Amy's voice within me and sent her some brownies, turns out, she was having sort of a difficult time. Those brownies made her feel a little better about her day and made me feel like I've just won the world. I still remember catching myself smiling about it randomly for weeks, like an absolute idiot, but a happy one.

Slowly, our conversations just got easier and warmer. We spoke about our days, about the weather on her side of the map, and about my ongoing hunt for our mutual favourite soul food, the perfect wadapaav. Every now and then, we’d check up on each other, and I remembered her mentioning about sharing a virtual conversation, so I thought, why not make it happen? I pulled my teammates in, and we sat there, figuring out how to make this surprise virtual meeting feel epic. On the big day, despite her travelling for work, she took the call. And there it was: the first time we saw each other, screen-to-screen. Hours of voice conversations, finally given a face. It was such a wholesome interaction. We remembered all the sweet moments we had shared, the brownie popping up on her doorstep on a rather gloomy day, to sharing songs that were 'suchhaa vibeee', quoting her, of course.

A huge part of Hameeda will always be carried within the essence of who Amy is. And that was the real win-win situation. I will always be grateful to Hameeda for letting us in and for letting Amy into her beautiful world full of light, rainbows, and sunshine.
